From Dancing to Personal Training: Kate Skinner's Story

Spending 10 years performing to packed out theatres on luxurious cruise ships in the Caribbean was my dream, or my “job” if that’s what you want to call it. Keeping fit, strong and healthy always ran side by side. Afterall, who doesn’t want to work out in the onboard gym with sandy beaches and limitless blue skies as their panoramic?

That is the exact place where I realised what my transition into the “real world”: Personal Training

Personal training as a 'new dream'

Premier Global NASM was first recommended to me by a fellow performer who had transitioned, and I am unbelievably glad I did my training with them. We were coached and supported step by step through the course with incredible tutors with a wealth of experience.

I even got offered a job as a PT based solely on the fact that I was taught by a specific Premier trainer. I knew I had made the right decision. It takes a lot to come to the realisation that you cannot continue your dream job forever - but being given the platform to inspire, encourage, and guide people along their fitness journey has made it all worthwhile.

This has become my new dream.

how dancing prepared me for personal training

Premier also made me realise that it didn’t matter what level of ability I had. To be a personal trainer is to use your own skills and knowledge to develop the type of trainer you are and want to become.

As a professional dancer I was forever warming up, stretching, perfecting technique in the mirror. I would always cue myself:

Are my shoulders pulled down? Is my core pulled in? Is my weight forward over my toes?

I used this exact process to shape my clients - along with continuing my own training.  We strive for great technique, and I thoroughly believe this is what we should build ourselves on.

To gain the most out of a session, an exercise, or a stretch, if our body is in the correct alignment, we have the potential to advance in depth of movement, strength and progression.

Resilience during the pandemic and a bright future ahead!

With the pandemic of 2020, a lot of my clients are training more now online than they ever have before. Pushing through this period with strength, optimism and pure dedication, they keep coming back, they keep working out, and they keep getting fitter and mentally stronger.

My clients have new goals and time schedules. Their dedication is my motivation, and my dedication is their progression.

With all of this said, I want to thank Premier Global NASM for everything they have done for me and for opening the door to my "new dream" as a personal trainer. Getting my Level 3 has changed my life! Learn everything you need to know about how to become a personal trainer by following the link.
