The English Institute of Sport (EIS) has teamed up with leading educator of health and fitness professionals, Premier Global NASM, to offer athletes a pathway into the health, fitness and wellbeing sector.Premier Global NASM will work closely with the EIS Performance Lifestyle team to help current and retiring British elite athletes take the first steps towards becoming a personal trainer.
The EIS Performance Lifestyle team has been working for over 15 years alongside National Governing Bodies for sport to support athletes to develop themselves away from their sport. In 2018 the Performance Lifestyle team launched the #More2Me campaign, which encourages athletes to share their stories of personal development and in turn encourage other athletes to consider their lives away from sport.
Offering a range of digital and virtual qualifications, Premier Global NASM will help athletes with an interest entering the fitness industry to navigate a path towards a new career.
Marcia Bailey, Performance Lifestyle Technical Lead at the EIS, said:
“Many athletes that we work with are keen to utilise their athletic ability, knowledge and dedication to training once they retire from competition and personal training is an excellent route. We are really pleased to have Premier Global NASM on board to help current and retiring athletes develop industry expertise and gain vital qualifications for athletes.”
Dan Rees, Managing Director, Premier Global NASM added:
“Many successful athletes, either through personal choice, deselection or injury, find themselves retiring from competitive sport at a relatively young age. It is, therefore, really important that they start to think about an alternative career they can step into when the time is right.“
"Every year, Premier Global NASM trains more than 4,000 individuals to become personal trainers, with thousands of fitness professionals also enhancing their fitness qualifications through our continuing professional development programme."
“One of the reasons so many people choose to train with us, besides the fact that our qualifications are recognised and highly regarded by all of the major employers within the sport and physical activity sector, is our ability to apply Live Learning Through Digital Technology to every stage of a student’s learning journey. This means, individuals are able to fit learning around other commitments, in the case of a world class athletes – training, competition and family life.”
